JoAnn Swinton, Volunteer Mentor – Mentoring Matters

I have been a mentoring with Helping Services for five years and have love every minute of it! Getting together with other mentors and mentees is always a highlight. One of my favorite events, the Helping Services’ Youth Mentoring Bowl-a-Thon is right around the corner on April 6th at Lightning Lanes in Manchester. This event aims to raise needed funds to connect local youth with a trusted role model. This year’s theme, “Rootin’ Tootin’ Mentoring Bowl-A-Thon” emphasizes the need the community has for everyday boys & girls to be volunteer mentors to local youth. The proceeds equip mentors with the training and tools they need to develop rich relationships.

Ellen Krogmann, Mentoring Coordinator at Helping Services always reminds us, “this fundraiser is a way for community members to have some fun with their co-workers, friends, and neighbors by raising money for a worthy cause”.

My mentee and I have enjoyed many fun activities through our time together.  Some of our favorites include going to movies, going out to eat, cooking, and attending group activities provided by the mentoring program.  Seeing her grow and learn has been rewarding and fun! I am grateful to the mentoring program for all the support given to mentors, mentees, and families.

Join me at the Rootin’ Tootin’ Bowl-A-Thon by registering at www.helpingservices.org/YMBOWLATHON or give Ellen Krogmann a call at 563-379-3454.

See you on April 6!
