Impact: Healthy Delaware County

One of the most impactful prevention strategies in Delaware County is the facilitation of the Healthy Delaware County Coalition. This coalition started back in 2000 when there was a huge uptick in children being removed from their homes due to methamphetamine use. Substance use prevention efforts haven’t stopped since. Formerly known as the Delaware County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (DDAC) has worked on providing substance use awareness and education, partnering with law enforcement on Iowa law compliance, and adopting and/or modifying policies that deter substance use. Healthy Delaware County now strives to educate and promote the health and well-being of youth, families, and individuals by addressing issues related to substance use, brain health, and other co-occurring issues with a focus on healthy choices, resources, and collaborative efforts amongst partners.
