March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month

Problem gambling prevention is needed now more than ever. Sports betting is right at our fingertips and Iowans are spending a significant amount of money. According to the Legal Sports Report, Iowa sportsbooks set a new record with $303.3 million in bets in January alone. That pushed the total bets past $3 billion since it launched in August 2019.

Problem Gambling Awareness Month is designed to help raise awareness on the prevention, treatment, and recovery services available in Iowa and locally. Helping Services for Youth & Families is available to provide education through training opportunities to increase awareness and knowledge on the issue. To schedule your training call (563) 387-1720 or prevention@helpingservices.org.

To get help with a gambling problem for you or a loved one, call (855) 581-8111 or text (855) 895-8398. These numbers are free of charge and confidential. You can also contact your local problem gambling treatment provider, Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health, by calling (563) 382-3649.
