Purple Ribbon Members

Project Detail

See current members

Store owners/workers throughout the seven-county service area are invited to become members of this new grassroots effort to serve local survivors of domestic violence. Purple Ribbon Members will be another means for customers to access help without going to an office. In your store front you would display a purple, signifying your space is safe for victims of violence. Often survivors are worried about someone seeing them meeting with an advocate in a place that would be suspicious to an abuser or someone who may be following her and reporting back to the abuser. This way it will look inconspicuous if she/he is walking into a hair salon, Chiropractor’s office, etc.

Why become a member?
You can provide your patrons a safe place to go that has people, with trained skills, that they know and trust. A patron may feel comfortable sharing about their domestic violence situation, and you can listen and explain options to them. When the victim is ready, you can also help them call our hotline. You or your employees are not expected to do advocacy work.

What does it take to become a member? Store owners and workers are required to take the 30-hour online training and then meet with advocates for an additional 5 1/2 hrs. for their certification.

Who can become a member? Hair salons, massage therapists, Yoga/Pilates instructors, Chiropractors, and other types of businesses are encouraged to pursue membership. Having this knowledge is an additional way they can serve their customers.
