DESCRIPTION:Young adults (ages 15-20) are particularly vulnerable to beginning a cycle of unhealthy alcohol misuse. This virtual training has been prepared by Luther College nursing students. Key points to be shared are: local\, state\, and national statistics\, the physiological impact on young people\, ways to prevent misuse\, how to help a friend\, and resources. This training will be of special interest to mentors\, parents/guardians\, college students\, health professionals\, youth leaders\, family counselors\, high school counselors\, and young adults. Everyone is invited to the June Family Fun Night in East Park in Cresco from 5:00-8:00 p.m. There will be bouncy houses\, food trucks\, a balloon guy\, and a special program at 6:00 p.m. Veterans will be honored at that time and kids will get to create a patriotic creation. Those in attendance of the special program will learn about the benefits available to veterans and about how folks can get involved in Youth Mentoring. An outdoor movie will begin at dusk.

Allamakee Prevention Advisory\, formed in late 2021\, and has a mission to “advocate\, educate\, and provide awareness to positively impact the health and wellness of Allamakee County.”  The group provides valuable feedback on the county culture\, trends\, and concerns while making recommendations on evidence-based practices and strategies to implement across the community. Those who attend will get to play one game of miniature golf and choose three other activities: go-karts\, bumper cars\, water wars\, or trampoline\nbasketball. We will enjoy pizza and pop together! \nFor those wanting to leave from the Decorah office by traveling on the Townline Bus\, you should arrive by 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. departure time. Those meeting to meet at Praire Fun Land\, you should arrive there at 9:45. Attendees should wear their mentoring t-shirt. \nPlease RSVP by Monday\, July 17.
