Hasn’t it been wonderful to go out with family and friends and not worry about cigarette smoke or coming home and smelling like a cigarette?
Since the start of the Smokefree Air Act in July 2008, business owners and managers have been required to be smoke free. The only indoor public place a person is allowed to smoke is on the gaming floors in casinos as well as designated hotel and motel rooms. The same holds true for vehicles. All vehicles owned, leased or provided by an employer are required to post “No Smoking” signs.
“No Smoking” signs are to be posted at every entrance to a public place of employment. These signs must include three items: The international “No Smoking” symbol or the words “No Smoking,” the Smokefree Air Act website, www.iowasmokefreeair.gov and the helpline phone number, 1-888-944-2247.
As we continue gathering with friends and family into the New Year, enjoy the fact that you can go into an establishment and it is smoke free. For more information on the Smokefree Air Act visit www.helpingservices.org.
