What is the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Parenting Program all about?
- We provide information and education for the prevention of teenage pregnancy.
- We provide support services for teen parents.
- We deliver programs in classroom, support group, and individual settings.
Collaborating agencies work to make programming successful in Howard, Allamakee, Winneshiek, and Clayton Counties (HAWC).
What are the educational programs that are available?
It Takes Two/Worth the Wait
A program for teaching teen pregnancy prevention. It illustrates consequences of unhealthy choices, motivates students to make healthy choices, and models healthy male-female relationships.
Baby Think It Over
A parent simulation that allows young adults the opportunity to explore the physical, emotional, social, and financial consequences of teen parenthood.
Girl Talk/Guy Talk
This program helps to facilitate communication between 6th grade girls and their mothers. It promotes self-esteem and encourages mothers to help their daughters deal with peer pressure.
Our Whole Lives
A sexuality education curriculum that can be used in after school youth programs or adapted for use in faith communities.
What support services do you offer?
- Support and advocacy are available to pregnant and parenting teens and their families.
- Teens and their families are invited to participate in support groups in all four counties.
- We provide referrals to other agencies to meet specific needs.
For Teen Parents
Groups for teen parents are an opportunity for teens to share ideas and frustrations with one another while receiving information on parenting and other personal growth topics. Support groups are available in all four counties.
For the Families of Teen Parents
Adjusting to three-generation living can be challenging and filled with confusion. Group members join together to share experiences in adapting to changing family dynamics.
