Just Eliminate Lies Creates Crime Scene at South Winneshiek High School
for Kick Butts Day

On Wednesday, members of Just Eliminate Lies (JEL), Iowa’s youth-led anti-tobacco group, created a crime scene complete with police tape, body outlines and evidence markers at South Winneshiek High School.  The street marketing event was intended to expose Big Tobacco lies and motivate high school students to cease and prevent tobacco use in conjunction with Kick Butts Day.

Kick Butts Day is a student driven event whose purpose is to expose the truth about Big Tobacco Companies.  This national event is a great way to bring tobacco awareness to community members all across the country.

The body outline represented the 1,200 Americans killed every day by Big Tobacco’s products.  The evidence markers had shocking tobacco industry facts and statistics printed on them to educate South Winneshiek students about what Big Tobacco’s products are doing.

“JEL members at South Winneshiek chose the crime scene theme to demonstrate the idea that any other industry would be held accountable for causing 1,200 deaths of  its customers every day, Big Tobacco should be held accountable too,” said Marilyn Zweibahmer, JEL Coordinator.

JEL is funded by the IDPH Division of Tobacco Use Prevention and Control.  To learn more about JEL, visit www.jeliowa.org or www.helpingservices.org.
