What is mentoring?
- Mentors are role models sharing their time and experiences with a young person.
- Mentors are not a substitute parent or grandparent
- Mentors are not psychologists or social workers
- Mentoring is simply being a friend to a young person by being there for them
What does it take to be a mentee?
- The youth must live or attend school in Howard, Winneshiek or Allamakee County
- The youth and parent must want a mentor
- If the youth lives in or attends school in Fayette county we can refer them to one of four programs Helping Services supports in Fayette county
How can you get started?
- Fill out an application
- Complete an interview with a Mentoring Coordinator
- If the youth is not matched with a mentor right away, he/she can come to mentoring events and be with a Mentor For A Day (based on availability)
