How to Request a Mentor

“I like that the mentoring program helps kids in my
community, to have a positive influence in their lives.”

Mentee Applications

Mentee application (parent application included)

(applies to residents living in Allamakee, Delaware, Howard, and Winneshiek counties). See the Mentoring page for the mentoring application.

What is mentoring?

  • Mentors are role models sharing their time and experiences with a young person.
  • Mentors are not a substitute parent or grandparent
  • Mentors are not psychologists or social workers
  • Mentoring is simply being a friend to a young person by being there for them

What does it take to be a mentee?

  • The youth must live or attend school in Howard, Winneshiek or Allamakee County
  • The youth and parent must want a mentor
  • If the youth lives in or attends school in Fayette county we can refer them to one of four programs Helping Services supports in Fayette county

How can you get started?

What do kids say about being in the program?

“It is fun, keeps you very busy. I love the food my mentor and I make. He has entertaining games like Elf Bowling and Uno.”

“Getting to do fun stuff, and just talking.”

“I like being with people other than my family.”

“I like having someone to talk to that I know I can trust to keep it secret and having someone who doesn’t judge me and that I can always have fun with.”
