“Mentoring is important in our community because children need as many supportive adults in their lives as they can possibly get. Someday they will need to be supportive adults themselves and contribute to the strength of the community.” |

What is mentoring?
- Mentoring is simply being a friend to a young person.
- Mentors are not parents, psychologists, or social workers
- Mentors are role models sharing their time and experiences with a young person
What are some ways we support our mentors?
- Organized events provided for mentors and mentees by Mentoring Programs
- Specialized trainings for mentors on relative topics
- Structured activities called Modules of Mentoring that teach life, social and academic skills while providing a fun activity for mentors and mentees to do together
- Reimbursement for expenses accrued while with their mentee
- Funding and resources to help mentors encourage their mentee’s interests and passions
- Regular contact with a mentoring coordinator
What do mentors say about being in the program?
- “What I like about being a mentor is knowing that I make a difference in a child’s life that I am mentoring and making that child happy.”
- “I love sharing fun events, new adventures that they have never done, seeing the smiles and sparkles in their eyes, knowing I am leaving a lifelong impact on a person, making a difference for someone, brightening their world as well as mine.”
