Pharmaceutical/Pill Drops

One of the most serious threats to our youth may be lurking in your medicine cabinet. Prescription drug abuse has quickly become a major focus of concern to our nation. A 2009 study conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration shows that “Every day 2,500 youth age 12 to 17 abuse a pain reliever for the very first time. More teens abuse prescription drugs than any illicit drug except marijuana.”

In order to help stop this increasing trend, Helping Services for Northeast Iowa has hosted Prescription Drug Drop Offs in Allamakee, Dubuque and Delaware counties. A Prescription Drug Drop Off is a free, easy, and convenient way to clean out your medicine cabinet. All you have to do is keep you medications in their original containers, if possible, mark out identifying information with a black marker and take them to your nearest drop site. To hear more about Prescription Drug Drop Offs in your area please contact Helping Services for Northeast Iowa at (563) 387-1720.
